I called in from the office. The interview lasted approximately 4 ½ minutes. The talking points included the current drought, land values, and the effect on the farm economy and the consumer. Summary of the interview was for 2012 even with the drought, the majority of the agricultural sectors enjoyed a solid financial year with the livestock sector suffering from higher feed cost. Land values remain strong to record prices due to limited land for sale, low interest rates, and limited land for sale. Same reason people are interested in buying land is the same reason people are not selling, what do you do with the sale proceeds. Why invest in 1 – 2% cd’s when with the high commodity prices receive a better return farming or leasing the property. Higher commodity prices and land values will result in increased cost to the consumer. Before I knew it, the interview was over. Thanks to 850 KOA NEWS RADIO, Steffan Tubbs, and April Zesbaugh for the opportunity to talk about current agriculture issues.
