Mitigation

Mitigation is the remedy of negative consequences of certain actions. Mitigation is required or requested for most water development projects. Mitigation may be required when constructing reservoirs, diverting large quantities of water from a stream or transferring water from one basin of the state to another. Mitigation can take the form of constructing new wetlands, building new storage to compensate for a loss of water, repairing a stream channel and any other action deemed prudent by affected parties.
