An acre-foot is the standard unit of measurement for standing or stored water. It is the amount of water required to cover one acre of land (43,560 square feet) one foot deep. An acre-foot is equal to 325,851gallons. Depending on how much water is used for outside irrigation, an acre-foot can meet the needs of one to two single-family households for a year.
